Ignoring the Warnings

The subject that I spoke about yesterday, with its boundless energy for connection, creation, and emotional depth, embodies a zest for life that is unparalleled.

Whether it's a passion for art, a calling to nurture relationships, or a longing to immerse oneself in beauty, this energy thrives when fully engaged with the heart's desires. But what happens when this is stifled, when the call of passion is ignored?

The Whisper of Passion

Every calling starts as a whisper—a gentle nudge urging us to paint, to write, to dance, to love deeply   (even to leave our day job and start a dungeon).  This whisper often feels like a spark that warms the soul. It’s not merely a hobby or fleeting interest; it’s a lifeline to the deeper self. Ignoring this whisper may initially feel like self-discipline, practicality, or simply a postponement. Yet over time, the silence becomes deafening.

The Symptoms of Neglect

When a passion is denied, the consequences manifest in subtle yet profound ways:

  1. Emotional Numbness:  Ignoring passion can lead to a life that feels colorless, a sense of going through the motions without truly living.

  2. Restlessness: Suppressed desires have a way of bubbling up in unexpected ways. A nagging sense of dissatisfaction or the constant urge to seek fulfillment elsewhere often emerges. This can lead to risky behavior, arguments, self-destructive acts , etc...

  3. Self-Doubt: Over time, the act of silencing one's inner voice erodes self-trust. You may begin to question your worth or feel disconnected from your true identity. Sometimes even trapped.

  4. Physical Manifestations: Unexpressed passion can take a toll on the body. Chronic fatigue, tension, or even physical illnesses might arise as the soul’s unmet needs manifest.

The Cost of Suppression

Ignoring the call of passion is, at its core, a denial of the self.

It is not just about romance or beauty—it’s about authenticity, living in alignment with one’s deepest truths. Suppression may lead to a life that looks perfect on the surface but feels hollow within.

Reigniting the Spark

The good news is that it’s never too late to answer the call. Humans are resilient and ever-ready to embrace life’s joys. Here’s how to reconnect:

  1. Revisit Forgotten Loves: Recall the activities, people, or places that once lit you up. Reintroduce them into your life, even in small ways. I went through a rough patch and had forgotten that I liked to bake and paint, integrating those back into my life, even just once a week made a difference.

  2. Create Space for Exploration: Dedicate time to pursuits that feel indulgent, creative, or simply pleasurable. This energy thrives when given room to explore. Set aside some time to purposely enjoy life. Set a timer if you have to. You don't have to start big, you just have to start.

  3. Listen to the Body: Wisdom often resides in physical sensations. Pay attention to what energizes and excites you. Often times, a bubble bath or incense does the trick for me, or even an indulgent Thai Massage.

  4. Seek Connection: Surround yourself with people who celebrate your passions. If your people don't charge the mound for you, you might be on the wrong team. Make sure you share the same energy and passion with  others.

The Lover’s Redemption

To live as truthfully as possible is to embrace a life of richness, connection, and profound meaning. Ignoring a passion or calling may dim the light temporarily, but the essence remains intact. With intention and courage, the flame can be reignited, leading to a life that feels deeply satisfying and authentically yours.

In the end, passion isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Answering the call isn’t just about pursuing joy; it’s about honoring who you truly are. So, let the whisper become a roar. Embrace your passions, and watch as your world transforms.

What will you do today to fan the flame of passion in your life?
